Philipps University Marburg

The Department of Geography of the Philipps-Universität Marburg focuses on environmental, social & economic issues to understand & solve problems from a spatial perspective. The working group Regional Studies and Policy has a special focus on rural development, including the role of renewable energy. PUM will bring in knowledge and expertise from local bioenergy village projects and academic skills in socio-economic research methods.

Together with ORC PUM will take the lead on WP2 which will focus on the assessment, monitoring and evaluation of the project. PUMs socio-economic research experiences will contribute to the following project aims: Assessment of policy frameworks on all scales, assessment of organizational structures, socio-economic assessment of pilot projects and the collecting and dissemination of best practice examples. Bioenergy villages in the County of Marburg-Biedenkopf will work as an example for partners in terms of setting up bioenergy cooperatives and local bioenergy value chains.
